Commentaries on Lakshmi’s work

 Lakshmi Dutt’s work always has a unique sense of incessant movement. It contains something like the turbulence of a mass of air during a storm; a sense of cracks, fissures, standing in front of one of her images, your eye is in constant movement, jumping from line to line, stopping at intersections, getting lost in curves, moving from one color to another. None of the shapes, lines or colors can be clearly defined – everything moves, changes, melts as it separates. Like a drop of oil on the surface of the water which catches your attention even as it disperses, the fluid forms of Lakshmi Dutt’s images capture our imagination, reminding us of nature’s most essential force: energy and light.

These present gravures, or graphics, show that not only the craft but her vision has widened, opening up more and more space for the inner eye. In my own case what at least some works do is to quietly midwife the feel of the sky and the whirling planets. The sweeps of inky acids, or whatever, achieve something of that sort without much fuss. In short, though I hate to press into service the expression sublimity, no other choice will do. The hues of these works, whether warm or cool certainly achieve those moments when we busybodies stop in our tracks. Can the meditative state not be attained by art?

It brings together the worlds, presents us with uncharted landscape. We are short. In the emotion intelligently awake when a new regard. Evolution / Movement /Explosion ... Discard / revive / rehabilitate ... Next / Now / Tonight.. Glow signs, modest small graphs at the foot prints. To us to see! The work is open, it welcomes us into the lines and passages, and dark colors, the light inserts. Geology and Archaeology of the inner space, the space outside. Burning hollow and absorbs, stores the skins and textures, takes his time, picks up the time.
